More Chances, Better Opportunities
by Cydney May, Indian Trail Junior High School
The best way that we could improve Kansas is by providing kids with a quality education. This can be done by creating a more challenging curriculum in our schools.
This is important because if people have a higher expectation standard then kids will rise to the occasion. The way that we can do that is by making sure that each grade is fully preparing children for the next grade. Sometimes, students can be in a grade level that is not challenging them. Pupils aren't prepared by last year's teacher or curriculum for the next year. When they move up to the next grade level, and it is harder, then they don't understand everything. If we could fix this problem it would make it easier for Kansas students.
We could also make the math and science curriculum actiivities more advanced so that we can become leaders in these categories.
The benefit for Kansas if we did these things would be that we could develop more products for the U.S. Doing this could also help us earn more money which would help Kansas economically.
These solutions could create a circle effect for kids. If students that are in school now go through college and get a degree, then their own children are more likely to get a degree. Then, the children's children would be encouraged and so on.
Those are the ways that I think we can improve Kansas and what would happen if we did change. This will create more chances for children in Kansas for college, jobs, better economic choices, and more opportunities for success.
