Growing up healthy
by Austin Gillespie, Mill Creek Middle School
If you take a look around, you'll notice that all of the children around you will someday grow up to be leaders of our society. Although, in order for these kids to grow up into successful adults, we must help them get there. By this I mean that, health-wise, children don't usually know the importance of staying healthy and active. So, our best bet is to educate them and change the way they view the signicance of their health.
First, it's important to ensure that kids are getting involved in some sort of physical activity. Even if a child doesn't have a high interest in some sort of sport, they can still get fresh air outside or get physical in a gym class at school. In my opinion, physical education is something I strongly believe should be required for every child of any age to keep them fit.
Another thing I am for is eating right. I believe things like pop machines and vending machines should be taken out of schools. Also, if kids were given the proper nutrition in the morning, such as protein, it would help them last through the long school day. This would help kids be able to focus on learning.
All of these simple ideas, in my eyes, could change the future of our children. This is because the way kids take care of their body and health as a child has a huge impact on their life later. So, my plan for Kansas' children would be to help those healthy lifestyles that could take them on to reach great heights.
