Intro to Advocacy
Advocacy is an attempt to influence legislative action or change. But, in order effectively influence decisions at the Statehouse, it’s important to understand the legislative process, to be strategic in the relationships you develop and to utilize methods that effectively communicate your position or cause. This new report explains the process and provides tips for effectively advocating on behalf of Kansas children.

Fiscal Focus: Erosion of the Tax Base
Over the past 15 years, a lot has changed in Kansas, including the basis of our economy. The state budget shortfalls we’re seeing today are the result of an outdated tax structure, which was created in the 1930s and no longer reflects the economic realities that Kansas is facing today. As a result, our tax base has been eroded, which has put critical services like our K-12 education system, higher education and social services at risk. This report provides an overview of how our tax structure has been weakened over time.
