“In light of the fact that thousands of families have lost access to cash assistance, it’s ironic we’re talking about them needing mentors. What they need is access to cash assistance. They need to be able to pay for housing and diapers and childcare. Policymakers have already reduced the time Kansas families spend on TANF quite well on their own, and not because they’re faring better, but because we’re forcing them off the program. Rather than create new programs, we should focus on investing in the programs and services Kansas already has in place.”
