Kansas Action for Children takes to road for fall tour

Kansas Action for Children has been working to make Kansas the best place to raise — and be — a child for some 40 years. During that time, our advocacy has taken many forms. We helped preserve and strengthen the Children’s Initiatives Fund and advocated for restoring responsible tax policy.
This fall, KAC is embarking on the latest chapter of our mission. Our leadership and staff members are taking to the road to talk about what we can do for children and families in Kansas — what policies we can pursue to transform lives and outcomes for everyone in the state.
“This election season is an important time, and the stakes are high,” said Annie McKay, KAC’s president and CEO. “There’s so much we can do, as long as we’re all working together to put kids first.”
How do we ensure that our state’s youngest children have access to high-quality early education, nurturing places and spaces, and routine health care? What can we do to make these goals a reality, and how can we ensure success for kids from communities of color who face barriers created by historic policy choices?
KAC has an ambitious agenda for this upcoming legislative session and beyond.
We want to help make child care more affordable for families across Kansas. We want to raise the importance of paid family leave as a solution to intergenerational challenges. And we want to highlight actions that would improve infant and maternal health. All three would strengthen families and supercharge our state’s economy.

McKay, Vice President of Advocacy John Wilson, Director of Government Relations Adrienne Olejnik and Director of Policy and Research Emily Fetsch are slated to appear at various stops in October and November.
